Lisboa

I went to Lisboa, Portugal last week, so here's my report.

The first day was pretty short as we got there late at night. We went to the hostel and then ventured out for some food. I had portugese egg tarts (castel de nata), and some charcoal bbq'ed chicken. good stuff.

The next day my group (Me, Keegan, and Preston) meet up with the other group (Travis, Kevin, Mike, Warren, Rebecca) to go check out the flea market. While we were waiting, some dude tried to sell us drugs, interesting.

We eventually made it to the flea market and walked around a bit. There wasn't much good stuff there ,but near by was the panteao nacional, so we went inside to take a look.

Their was some coffins and stuff inside and had an amazing view of the city from there as well.

Afterwards, we went for some lunch. I had baccalao assao (grilled cod). After lunch we split up and we went to the st george castle (castelo de sao jorge).

The castle was pretty cool, as it was just the exterior (walls and fortifications and stuff). It was also high above the city so it offered a great view.

We took it easy afterwards and just took the tram around to see the city (Rebecca broke her leg earlier). One of the neat things we saw was an elevator in the middle of the city. It lead to an old building that was destroyed by the earthquake a whiles back. We didn't know it was free so we didn't go on it.

While waiting for the others to arrive, we wandered around and found a church like building but it was heavily fortified, was neat.

For dinner we went to this place to have all you can eat grilled meat (8 euros). It was really good (haven't had lots of meat in a while) and the owner was really cool. He taught us a bunch of portugese and made us play guitar for him and stuff.

The next day we went to the elevator and old building and then walked around the waterfront. Another slow and relaxing day. We met up with the guys afterwards and went to the monestery (mosteiro dos jeronimos).

After that we went up padrao dos descombrimentos (discovery tower) before heading to belem tower.

At this point 1/2 the group had to fly back home while we went to the local soccer game to watch Benfica (home team) vs naval.

The minute I walked in, I realized my yellow shirt looked exactly like the other teams jersey, not good, so I promptly took it off, better safe then sorry. The home team was much better and had a ton of scoring chances but couldn't capitalize and the game ended 0-0, but was still exciting. Our seats were 4 rows from the field behind the net, it was pretty cool. The stadium was huge, and held over 50,000 people and was pretty full so it had great atmosphere.

The last day in Lisbon, we went to the town of Almada to see the big Christ statue. It was like the one in Rio but smaller. We took a ferry to the city so that was pretty cool.

Afterwards, we meet up with Travis and Warren and headed to Cascais to go to the beach. The beach was pretty small but was really nice.

The Atlantic water was fairly warm as well. We played some frisbee and swimming. There was this one rocky area i tried to get in but it had some strong currents to threw me into a bunch of rocks. It was pretty cool and I escaped with just a few cuts, all good.

After a day of relaxing we got on the plane and headed home, thus ending our trip to Lisbon.
